In the Gulf of California, Nautiscaphe is rolling out an innovative anchoring solution in the heart of a protected marine area

In Mexico, in a highly ecologically sensitive marine protected area, Nautiscaphe—a subsidiary of Wearth Group specializing in environmentally friendly anchoring systems—has designed and deployed an innovative mooring solution that ensures nautical activities can take place without damaging ecosystems.

Operating in a protected environment means one thing is absolutely necessary: maintaining boats’ safety while limiting the impact on the seabed to the greatest possible extent. Nautiscaphe faced a twofold challenge:

  • Rising to the challenges posed by the region’s extreme climate, with its powerful tropical storms.
  • Protecting a fragile, biodiversity-rich marine environment.

An anchoring system with a minimal footprint

The solution developed by the Nautiscaphe teams is based on a screw anchoring system, which has a very small footprint on the seabed. Unlike traditional moorings, which often cause seabed erosion and damage seagrass meadows, this device acts as a discreet and stable foundation, directly integrated into the substrate.

The anchoring screw is coupled with an underwater elastic cord assembly. The mechanism absorbs movement caused by the wind, the currents, and swell, while keeping the boat securely in position. The system results in significantly less scraping of chains on the seabed, which limits damage to ecosystems

This approach makes it possible to combine structural strength with respect for the living world. Even in extreme weather conditions, the moorings remain reliable, with no repeated physical disruption to marine habitats.

The project was designed and developed by Nautiscaphe’s engineering teams, then installed in collaboration with a local underwater diving specialist. The partnership meant that installation was both highly precise and tailored to the site’s specific characteristics and to local environmental constraints.

Innovating to protect

Marine protected areas are facing increasing pressure from tourism and nautical activities. Installing appropriate infrastructure is becoming essential to maintain the balance between human activities and environmental protection.

Instead of seeing development and protection as opposites, Nautiscaphe shows that innovation can allow practices to coexist and provide solutions to contemporary environmental and climate challenges all over the world.
