In Saverne, Poralu Bridge builds a footbridge to boost active travel

In Saverne in Alsace, France, Poralu Bridge—a subsidiary of Wearth Group—has delivered a pedestrian and bicycle bridge that demonstrates the extent of its industrial expertise and its ability to design custom-made structures for local areas.

Installed in an environment renowned for its landscape, the bridge was designed to meet a twin challenge: offering safe active travel while blending seamlessly into its natural and urban setting. As with each of its projects, Poralu Bridge was responsible for the entire value chain: engineering, design, manufacturing, and installation.

A bridge built to last

The Saverne footbridge measures 32 m long and 3 m wide and is supported by an aluminum structure.
Choosing aluminum helps meet specific technical constraints:

  • optimizing weight for easier installation,
  • ensuring resistance to climate variations and humid environments,
  • and managing operating costs over time.

This approach ensures a bridge that’s built to last, adapting to needs over decades to come.

Promoting active travel

As well as the technical achievement it represents, the Saverne footbridge is part of a broader approach to changing how we travel. By making journeys easier for pedestrians and cyclists, it helps reduce reliance on cars for short journeys and makes everyday journeys safer.

Infrastructure such as this plays a key role in transforming local areas, reconnecting neighborhoods, creating new active routes, improving accessibility and bolstering local appeal. This means that the new bridge becomes a crucial link in Saverne’s transport network.

Demonstrating Wearth’s DNA

Through this project, Poralu Bridge once again demonstrates its ability to combine industrial performance, environmental requirements, and a high-quality user experience. Designing bridges isn’t only about crossing an obstacle. It’s about creating links, structuring flows, and supporting a changing society.
